THE SAFETY AND WELL-BEING OF OUR MEMBERS AND STAFF REMAINS OUR TOP PRIORITY

THANK YOU FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING

MESSAGE FROM THE SECRETARY-TREASURER

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

I want to begin by hoping that all of you and your families are safe and well.

The members of Local 671 are playing an essential part in this current crisis.  As most of you are aware, Teamsters Local 671 represents members in many areas directly and indirectly effected by the pandemic.  Our nurses and other workers in the nursing homes we represent are on the front lines dealing with the many people who are affected by this disease.  Our ambulance paramedics and EMTs are aiding in providing the care these people need.  Our DHL and UPS members are working excessive hours providing the supplies and products to the public.  Our construction workers, warehouse workers, public sector workers, delivery drivers and workers at the oil & propane companies are all working to protect our families and the public.  Teamsters have always played important parts in any disaster.  Our members always answer the call.  Thank you to these members who are working to protect us all.

I also need to truly thank the staff of the union and our health fund offices.  These workers also answered the call when asked.  Our offices have been operating as close to normal as possible through this crisis.  Thanks to these workers as well.

As we continue through this crisis, we will adjust to this ever-changing environment.

We are planning on reopening our offices on July 13th with a modified business plan.  There will be many precautions in effect such as the need to make an appointment to come into the Union Hall and you will also be required to wear a mask at all times.  All social distancing will be observed.  Please go to the website for other mandatory procedures that will be in place. We will abide by all State Regulations and the Governor’s Executive Orders.

We are following these guidelines to protect our members, staff, your families and the public.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Union Hall or talk to your Business Agents.  We are here to help.

I ask for your patience and help during this very difficult time.

WE WILL ALL GET THROUGH THIS UNITED TOGETHER

Fraternally,

Dave Lucas

Secretary-Treasurer

Message from the Secretary-Treasurer

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

I am writing on behalf of the Officers and Staff of Teamsters Local 671. The current situation with this coronavirus finds all of us in a very unfamiliar way.  While the rules are changing daily, we are trying to keep members informed.

We are receiving many questions that there are no direct answers for.  Above all, we all need make sure that we along with our families are safe.  Some of the questions regarding what to do if you test positive, have been exposed to the virus or you are not feeling well need to be decided by you.  We have been in touch with virtually all the companies that we represent and they have concurred that if you feel you should not go to work, let the employer know you will not be disciplined for absenteeism related to this virus.

During this crisis, the Business Agents and I will be limiting our on-site visits for obvious reasons. Our Business Agent’s reports will be on our website soon. Our office is currently operating daily with the mandatory restrictions in place. We are all available via email, text and phone at the numbers and addresses listed below.

Please read all the postings on our website at www.teamsters671.com, our Facebook page and the bulletin boards in your workplaces or simply call the Union Hall.  We will answer the questions that we know the answers to.

Again, above all, keep your families safe and practice the precautions that have been put into place for this reason.  Due the daily changes being imposed, as of the writing of this letter, many things could have already changed.

Fraternally yours,

Dave Lucas

Secretary-Treasurer

Principal Officer

Sebastian "Subby Fiume

1928 - 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce that Teamsters Local 671 has lost one of our oldest members.

Retiree Sebastian “Subby” Fiume passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at the age of 91.

Subby has been a member of this Local Union for 64 years.  He was an active member for 34 years before retiring in 1990 as a driver for Consolidated Freight and was an active retiree for 30 years.

Subby volunteered when ever asked and sincerely believed in the union labor movement.  If he was needed for any reason to help with organizing, walking a picket line or protesting at a demonstration, there was no hesitation.

His generosity to help others didn’t stop there.  Subby was also one of the volunteers that stepped up every Christmas and collected toys for children that were less fortunate than others and was always at the Union Hall to help prepare for events.  We cannot recall a time when Subby was asked to help that he did not answer the call.

He was a member of the Local 671 Retiree’s Association Executive Board for many years where he continued to promote unionism and help others.

Subby made it very clear to everyone he spoke to that the Teamsters Union gave him and his family a quality of life that everyone deserves.  Without members like Subby the lifestyles, pensions and health benefits that we enjoy today would not have been possible.

Subby was very proud to be a member of Teamsters Local 671 and we are all very lucky to have known him.  We cannot begin to express how much he will be missed but he will always be fondly remembered.

Rest easy friend, you earned it.
